Habits (Part 1)

Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going. – Jim Ryun

Greetings. I hope you all are in good health. Truth be told, I have forgotten what day it is but I have been trying to be as productive as I can during this trying times. A lot of people, my peers included, have been doing various things from cooking, cleaning, working out, and many more to fill up their free time. Of course, not forgetting our front-liners that has been working relentlessly – as the saying goes, not all heroes wear capes. Nevertheless, our routines have changed drastically ever since the Restriction Movement Order (RMO) was implemented more than two weeks ago, and by now we should be accustomed to our current routines.

First off, I would like to say how fortunate I am that we are still able to go about our days, albeit limited due to the current circumstances. The first few days have been rather difficult, in the sense that I have to readjust my schedule and really find motivation to be productive at home. Again, I am very fortunate to be able to work from home and to still have food on the table for days to come. This has made me so grateful and for those in the same boat as myself, I hope that you all will be able to see it the same way as I do. Always try to see the good in things, even when things get rough. Although it is easier said than done, I sincerely hope we will be able to manifest this in our daily lives.

Frankly speaking, I am not entirely a morning person so waking up early with little to none to look forward to in the day has made it rather difficult for me. This is something that I have been meaning to work on, alongside sleeping a little early instead of in the wee hours of the morning which I am very guilty of. Back then, I used to not have much problem in waking up at a decent hour to get ready for work but I cannot say the same during this period. However, I have seen some improvements lately, although small, they are still accomplishments to me. As such, I hope that I will be able to get my sleeping pattern in check just so my body will not be shocked with the change in pace once we can resume our daily activities “pre-RMO“.

One of the good habits I have picked up is drinking more water in a day. I don’t actually count the number of glasses I take in a day but I think it is at a recommended rate – 8 glasses of water per day. It might not be revolutionary to most but I have noticed a great deal from this, one being that my skin has improved significantly as well being able to cut down on excessive snacking. The latter is also a challenge because half of the time, we try to find food to snack on for the wrong reason(s) – boredom. I hope this habit sticks with me way past RMO.

Having and sticking to a skincare routine is another that I picked up. I have rather an extensive variation of skincare products which I have accumulated in the past and I never had the time to really dedicate the much needed time to pamper my skin, so better now than never. I keep my routine relatively simple but with the wide selection of products, I do try to switch out products when I can to see which works best for my skin. On top of that, it would be a waste to not use these products now and with skincare, it is indeed trial and error, so you would not know the outcome unless you try. At this moment, my skin is doing pretty well and perhaps in the near future, I will dedicate a post on my skincare routine once it is perfected!

I am proud to say that I have not used makeup for more than two weeks and this is by far, the longest I have gone without it! Technically, I do not have the need to have makeup on since I am mostly lounging at home but if there is one makeup product that I do use now is a tinted lip balm or Stained Glass Stick from Laneige. It makes me feel less of a slob and does add a subtle tint to my lips since my lips are naturally pale and dry to begin with. I will make a post on my current favorite products during RMO very soon so please stay tuned.

If you have reached till the end of this post, I would like to thank you and do know that I will publish a Part 2 to this post in days to come. I do try to space out my posts so that there would not be excessive posts at once, if that makes sense. I also hope that things will get better with time and do let me know if you have suggestions on things that I can write about in the near future. Also, please share with me what are some good habits that you have picked up over the past few days/weeks, I would love to know! Until then, please stay safe and practice good hygiene wherever you are. Remember that this too shall pass.

xo, Intan
